Community Shares of New England Receives Grant

The Smith Purdon Fund of the Merrimack Valley Area has awarded a start up grant to Community Shares of New England. "This funding is of vital importance to us," said Hildie Lipson, Board Chair of Community Shares of New England, "and will allow us to expand our services in the region."
Community Shares of New England, whose mission is to aid charities and non-profits working on social, economic and environmental injustice, is located in Lowell, Massachusetts. The Smith Purdon Fund bestows grants to organizations in the Merrimack Valley area and particularly supports new initiatives. While the organizations affiliated with Community Shares of New England have provided services for many years, Community Shares itself is a new venture to facilitate funding and support the fundraising campaigns in workplaces throughout New England. Community Shares are a growing group of umbrella organizations around the country.
"The Smith Purdon Fund has a solid track record of supporting charities that started small and grew into important service providers," remarked Lipson. "We are grateful they have chosen Community Shares of New England to add to this distinguished list."
